Is Ripple’s XRP the Next Bitcoin? AllinCrypto May 17, 2025

While speaking at Consensus 2025, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portony said he believes Ripple’s XRP could be the next Bitcoin.

Dave Portony recently entered the cryptocurrency space by betting on and launching memecoins on the Solana network, posting about them publicly on Twitter/X.

Portony’s words may sound like noise, but could they bear any weight? With XRP keen on becoming the future of banking, facilitating SWIFT-like qualities, could XRP be “the next Bitcoin”?

Is XRP the next Bitcoin? Dave Portony Thinks So

At a recent Consensus 2025 talk, Dave Portony, CEO of Barstool Sports, discussed hype and his experiences with cryptocurrency traders before entering the space himself.

Speaking on “FOMO” and memecoins, Portony believes that there’s not much FOMO on Bitcoin now that it’s “so established” and that other altcoins, like XRP, are at a low price and could become the next Bitcoin while being more accessible price-wise to new traders.

Ripple’s XRP token will fuel the wider Ripple ecosystem as it dominates global payments. It will help banks and institutions make cheaper, more affordable transactions while tokenizing and managing derivative assets.

Most recently, Ripple acquired Hidden Road, a leading prime broker that processes $3 trillion annually. Since buying out Hidden Road,  Ripple has made it known in their latest press releases that there are definite plans to integrate RLUSD and Ripple’s network.

Ripple’s recent plans for RLUSD and XRP Ledger from their Q1 2025 report.

Integrating the Ripple ecosystem into one of the largest traditional financial prime brokers will elevate the Ripple ecosystem in an unprecedented way.

With new money licenses in the UAE, the United States, and Europe, Ripple’s payment network is set to become more apparent in the global financial system in the coming years.

With RLUSD adoption also on the rise, with the stablecoin now sitting at a $300M+ market capitalization since launching in late 2024, Rippe’s XRP token is set for continued growth.

XRP price target $19 allincrypto

Keeping in mind our Allincrypto XRP price target of $19.00 in the long term, there could very well be a chance that XRP will flip Bitcoin, not in price, but in adoption and usage.

Institutions are on the lookout for cryptocurrency networks that can facilitate tokenization, fast, global transactions with low costs on a network with security and interoperability at its core.

Altcoins and the Race for Institutional Adoption

Compared to Ripple’s XRP, there’s few options outside of the likes of Hedera, Cardano, XDC Network, Algorand, and Stellar Lumens where such a feat would be possible.

Bitcoin is slow and expensive to use. Layer 2 networks, such as the Bitcoin Lightning Network, can improve Bitcoin’s speeds, but the Lightning network would need to scale to the level that XRP, HBAR, and Cardano can to facilitate broader financial system usage.

Within the next 3 – 5 years or more, we may see tokens such as Ripple’s XRP taking over the narrative, as by then, Ripple would be reaching the peaks of institutional adoption by banking systems as part of their long-term plans.

If Ripple can achieve a quarter of what they plan to set out and do, there’s possibly no question that XRP can be the next Bitcoin in terms of adoption and use cases.
