The Government of Georgia is taking a major step toward modernizing its infrastructure through a new collaboration with Hedera Hashgraph, an enterprise-focused blockchain network.
The Ministry of Justice of Georgia has partnered with Hedera to explore blockchain-based solutions across the nation’s public sector, a significant move toward bringing government assets on-chain.
During a meeting between Georgia’s Minister of Justice, Paata Salia, and Hedera representatives, both sides discussed the potential to migrate key public datasets, particularly from the National Public Registry Agency, onto the Hedera network.
Georgia to Bring Public Records On-Chain for Transparency and Security
A major focus of the partnership is the exploration of on-chain property rights management, which would make Georgia one of the early adopters of blockchain-secured land and asset registration.
Moving registry data to Hedera’s decentralized ledger could enhance data integrity, reduce fraud, and improve long-term auditability with immutable records. On-chain data would also include property records, ownership data, and other critical registry functions that form the backbone of public services.
Hedera’s tight security and transparency make it suitable for government-scale recordkeeping where reliability is essential.
Georgia has introduced innovative services such as an integrated smart contract system used by the National Public Registry.
Building upon this existing tech, the government is also considering tokenizing real estate assets, converting physical property and rights into tokens on Hedera’s distributed ledger.
Asset tokenization could unlock new economic opportunities for the region, from fractional ownership to faster property payments and unlocking liquidity.
How This Could Boost Hedera Network Adoption
Governments require durable, tamper-proof infrastructures. Hedera’s Consensus Service, designed to timestamp and validate high volumes of data in real-time, fits the government’s requirements.
The initiative would also showcase Hedera’s capabilities to other nations exploring digital transformation. Government adoption is one of the strongest signals of blockchain maturity.
Georgia could encourage wider public-sector integration across Europe and Asia, and the increased usage of Hedera’s services would boost network activity and attract more developers and enterprises.
The next steps of the collaboration include forming joint working groups between Hedera, the Ministry of Justice, and the National Public Registry Agency. These teams will analyze technical requirements for integration and begin active collaboration, implementing DLT solutions.
