Big Moves Ahead for ALGO as Algorand Hosts Top VCs & Citibank AllinCrypto May 27, 2025
On May 22, Algorand hosted a dinner for over 25 venture capitalists from web3 companies and existing partners, including Citi, Aminoca Brands, BitPanda, and more.
According to Algorand, “The dinner was to talk about all that’s new with Algorand and across the ecosystem,” as the network tops recent charts for real-world asset adoption.
Citibank’s invitation cannot come as a surprise since the bank and Algorand have shared a long history, which may soon come to fruition.

The Algorand Foundation shared an image from a recent dinner held with dozens of VCs. During the dinner, the Foundation discussed the Algorand network and its ecosystem.
In recent weeks, Algorand has introduced staking rewards, which have further decentralized the ecosystem and introduced new investors to the network.

With over 3600 active nodes, Algorand has become one of the largest networks with active node runners.
With the US government eager to adopt regulated stablecoins and take advantage of their underlying real-world value to the United States dollar, real-world assets are gaining in popularity.
The Algorand network is one of the most used networks for real-world assets and tokenization. The EXOD stock has been fully tokenized onchain alongside countless dApps that bring RWAs to users.
Lofty, a real-estate investment platform on Algorand, recently crossed $4 million in rent distributions to investors. Other dApps, such as TravelX, are tokenizing airline tickets while helping airlines save on costs.
During an April keynote, Algorand founder Silvio Micali announced plans for a new type of network called the Fiat Chain. The chain would be geared toward institutional use cases and stablecoins.

Looking at Algorand’s past, the network has held consistent close ties with Citibank, a bank also known for its openness to blockchain technology and crypto.

In a now 404’d webpage from 2022, Citibank asked, “Is Algorand the Future of Finance?”. On the now-defunct webpage, Citibank discussed the inner workings of Algorand with founder Silvio Micali.
Citibank attended Algorand’s recent dinner along with other VCs. With crypto’s future secured in the US alongside strong stablecoin adoption techniques, Algorand’s Fiat Chain and RWA capabilities could play a large role in enabling banks.
Here’s to saying that a new Citibank project with Algorand could be right around the corner, with the upcoming Fiat Chain connecting it all together.
