Algorand has announced plans and new implementations to support a Universal Chess Passport in partnership with World Chess.

The passport will utilize decentralized identification and credentials to allow global chess players the ability to track tournament records, memberships, fair play reputation, and more.

The partnership was teased during our recent interview with Algorand Foundation CEO Staci Warden and has been spoken about live in a recent livestream with World Chess and Algorand.

Algorand x World Chess to create global chess passport

Over 600 million chess players will be able to log their credentials and player data via Algorand in an upcoming one-stop, decentralized application.

In partnership with World Chess, the Algorand network will be used to facilitate a Universal Chess Passport, arming top chess players and beginners with a new credential system.

According to Algorand, the passport can be used to connect chess players with a common system that unites credentials with tournaments, global rankings, player data, and more.

Chess organizations will be able to use the passport to verify chess players and their records, avoiding bad actors and making the chess world a lot more transparent with immutable data at everyone’s fingertips.

For the global chess industry, a transparent level of integrity can be maintained offline and online for international tournaments and between players throughout the world, a transparent feat that has never been done before.

Algorand’s passport will connect the chess industry like no other organization or application has ever done before, all while being transparent, secure, and decentralized.

The passport, known as a blockchain-based decentralized identifiers (DIDs), has been called a “match made in heaven” by Algroand for the online and offline chess community.

From Algorand Blog:

It’s been an honor for me to collaborate up to this point with the World Chess team, and with chess grandmaster Evgenij Miroshnichenko; their collective insights on how today’s chess systems work and critical pain points, as well as their feedback on the proposed system designs, are of course invaluable.

The Universal passport was developed in collaboration between Algorand and World Chess, leaders of the FIDE Online Arena, the official platform of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

During Algorand livestreams and promotions, World Chess COO Matvey Shekhovtsov and grandmaster Evgenij Miroshnichenko have given praise to Algorand’s development for the passport, legitimizing the upcoming application.

ALGO price action in recent weeks

Over the last 7 days, Algorand’s price has increased 20%, following in the steps of Bitcoin, now trading at a $103,917 price tag.

Algroand has surged out from a falling wedge that was identified during the token’s downturn at the beginning of the year.

With a reversal now in play, we may see the ALGO token gain on its previous losses, allowing investors to reap rewards on the run-up to the token’s next support levels.
